Let’s talk about IFSEC
As June comes to a close the Zitko team discuss their individual highlights from IFSEC2017, the flagship security show that took place at ExCeL London from the 20th-22nd June.
With all that has happened across the UK in the last few months, Security is a significant priority for everyone. IFSEC 2017 provided a platform for industry professionals to discuss, assess and reflect on the sector and to consider how greater technological advancements and collaborations can help push further industry progression.
Making the most out of IFSEC – George, Managing Director
As the owner of a small, growing business, IFSEC represented a real dilemma for me this year. To exhibit or not? That was the question. The team at IFSEC were brilliant with all their support over the preceding months, and I cannot thank them highly enough for their patience as I deliberated the decision. Yet with several other key marketing projects coinciding with the event, we decided on attendance rather than a stand. What surprised me was the amount of other, larger businesses that had seemingly gone through the same thought process. Amongst the usual goliaths there were either pockets of empty spaces or singular small business stands giving a slightly ‘bittier’ feel to the exhibition than in previous years. Everyone I spoke to had a different theory but what was consistent amongst most was that the centralisation of the global security industry is creating an increasingly challenging and more competitive marketplace for both event organisers and potential exhibitors.
As an attendee this year I thoroughly enjoyed IFSEC. It’s always fantastic to introduce new staff to the whole experience and there is no opportunity like it to meet so many peers, colleagues and customers in such a short space of time. Being free of a stand made networking so much easier, yet I still didn’t get round to every organisation! Several of the exhibitors were kind enough to run demonstrations to my team highlighting the many differences of what can seem like similar systems, whilst the guest speakers on each day were fascinating. I’m already looking forward to next year, whether that’s as an exhibitor or delegate!
Networking in the security sector – Emily, Consultant
It was my first time attending IFSEC this year and overall I found the event to be highly impressive. I was particularly interested in learning more about the products used in the industry to enhance my sector knowledge. I found the people I met to be fantastic professional representatives of their brand, products and services. It was a great opportunity to meet with clients I have been working with; providing me with a greater insight into the world of physical security that I recruit for here at Zitko.
Developing industry knowledge – Peter, Fire Security Consultant
Personally, I found FIREX and IFSEC 2017 to be a brilliant experience. I hadn’t formerly been to an event of this scale and it was fascinating to see just how large the Fire and Security sectors are. It was highly beneficial seeing our client’s products and systems in action, providing me with an even greater knowledge of the sector and the work undertaken within roles I look to place candidates in.
Partnerships are key – Phil, Senior Consultant
2017 was my 3rd year attending IFSEC and it was as enjoyable as ever. It’s always a great opportunity to meet our national and international clients and network with the many great people who work within the electronic security industry.
One thing that really struck me this year is the many partnerships that are in place throughout the industry. There are obvious partnerships of manufacturers partnered with the big integrators but also a huge number of technology partners with camera, access, intruder, VMS/analytics and server/storage manufacturers all able to integrate with each other.
As far as I can tell, the outcome to this is greater flexibility to offer bespoke and more suitable solutions for a variety of clients and projects. It also seems to spur on the need for technology advancements to keep ahead of the competition and be the technology of choice.
As 2017 continues to fly by, we’re not looking to slow down anytime soon, with the Zitko team looking to offer more roles and in turn place more candidates. We’ll be going through some fairly big changes ourselves, so keep an eye out on our website and social media online for regular Zitko news.
